Pratt Announces Tyna Ontko as Artist-in-Residence

With support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Pratt is proud to announce this summer’s Artist-in-Residence, Tyna Ontko. Tyna will be developing new work for her upcoming showing at Davidson Galleries in October. She plans to take advantage of Pratt’s unique multidisciplinary facilities to create work using stone lithography, cyanotype and cast plaster.

Tyna uses the multiple of the printmaking process to re-contextualize tradition in a contemporary installation setting. She separates the print from its commodity reputation by cutting individually rendered pieces out of an edition and replacing them together within a self-reflective story-like context. Cut from the same cloth is an overarching title for six works she will be exhibiting at Davidson Galleries this upcoming October, 2014. It will feature a combination of traditional methods of printmaking, as well as cast sculpture, found objects, and site-specific installation. Where systemic overproduction collapses meaning, Tyna strives to highlight the potential in limited materials by repetition obscuring familiar shape.
