Kids & Youth Art Works

youth making artTo spark young imaginations and create the next generation of artists, Pratt provides over 800 children and youth an experiential arts education in glass art (fusing, flameworking, glassblowing), painting & drawing, book binding, printmaking and more. Students experience a supportive environment in which they can express themselves creatively while gaining self-confidence and developing skills that are transferable to other academic subjects and to life. Originally a free drop-in arts program, Youth Art Works has grown into a structured learning experience for youth in grades K-12. Programs are offered during the school day, after school, on weekends, and in the summer at Pratt, and at nearby partner organizations such as Seattle Urban League, the Chinese Information & Service Center, and Washington Middle School.

Pratt offers FREE art classes for youth, grades K-8 through its Kids & Youth Art Works programs. These classes run quarterly
with priority given to those students who live in the Central District.

Youth / Teen Classes

Tuition-based classes for teens in glassblowing, welding and other media are also available. Each quarter we offer a group of core classes that explore our studios as well as an ongoing selection of classes such as bookmaking,
3-D sculpture, or comic book art.

We also provide custom classes for local school groups. Please contact Myra Kaha, Youth and Education Associate, if you are interested in learning more about these opportunities.

Youth Art Works in the Community

Youth Art Works also engages in projects that benefit the Seattle community including our Jackson Street Mural Project and Art in the class that created muralPark partnership with the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center. You can also find many of our youth based teaching artists throughout Seattle working to provide an experience of art at different events such as SAM’s Family Day and annual festivals throughout the NW.
